Layers of the Universe
2025
lights, yarn, glitter, transparent film, cardboard
10 x 10 x 10 inches
The project is a 3D box that resembles an observable universe. I want to convey the different factors that play a part in observations such as dust, distance, colors, etc. All of those factors change the way you look at an object in space and the information you can assume about it. In observations, you can change parameters to see specific details and that will be the case with this project. This project is interactive, so there are pieces that can be moved or look different based on how the viewer looks at it to show how observing things in a specific way affects what you see.

Of all of the research opportunities I've had the privilege of participating in, this is my first time doing observational work. Before this, experiment and theory research was all I knew. Working in observations has shown me how colorful, or lack thereof, the universe can be. My hope is that this work will show the viewer how I view space with the knowledge I've gained over the past few months.
